Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures

Students mixing a classroom activityStudent Hours

Students may enter the building between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. We do not provide adult supervision for students prior to 7:30 a.m. Our school day officially begins at 8:00 a.m.; therefore, any students arriving after 8:00 a.m. are tardy. If your child arrives after 8:00 a.m., please park and enter the building to sign him/her in so he/she can receive a tardy pass. A child who is consistently tardy is missing vital instruction and will be forced to start the day playing “catch up.” Please strive to have your child at school on time daily, which will help to develop a positive pattern as they mature.

Morning Arrival for Car Riders

Students may be dropped off at HCES beginning at 7:30 a.m. The designated drop-off area is the parking lot adjacent to the school. Please enter the lot and continue around the perimeter until you reach the sidewalk closest to the building. Once cars are lined along the sidewalk, children may exit the cars. Staff members will be present beginning at 7:30 a.m. to ensure that students are supervised as they make their way into the building.

Escorting Your Child Into the Building

On occasion, parents wish to escort their children into the school building in the morning. If you need to escort your child into the lobby, please use the designated “Hug and Kiss Goodbye Zone” to give a final wish for a great day at school. Rest assured there are plenty of staff stationed in our hallways to assist students who may need help.

Notifying Staff of Changes in Afternoon Dismissal Plans

If you know that your child’s typical dismissal plan will be altered, please send a note to the office. If an emergency arises and you need to make a last minute change, please call the school office at 365-8120. Please do not e-mail or text transportation changes.

Early Dismissal for Appointments

If your child has a medical appointment that requires early dismissal, please complete and send in an “HCES Change in Dismissal Plans” to make your child’s teacher and office staff aware. Parents who wish to pick their children up prior to our regular dismissal (2:30 p.m.) should plan to pick their child up in the office before 2:00 p.m. No dismissals will occur between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Afternoon Dismissal for Car Riders

If you plan to pick your child up from school at dismissal, please enter the parking lot adjacent to our school building. Be sure your curbside pass is visibly displayed on your dashboard. (Note: If you need an additional pass, we have them available in the front office.) Enter the lot and continue around the perimeter until you reach the sidewalk closest to the front of the building. For safety reasons, please do not pass cars. As you approach the sidewalk, a staff member will escort your child safely to your car.
